2015 Brisbane Art Prize ‘Life’

My work superficially reflects life at its most basic, scientific organic form – cells and synapses.  But it is much more than that. Laying beneath the physical and biological, is the spiritual and intellectual.

At a physical level, there are only minor significant variations between any living form (represented by the numerous layers of white – different mediums, different processes, similar tone); however, it is only when you look closely, you can see the richness of colour – the experience, the spiritual, the true life.

A cautionary tale – if you don’t stop and look closely enough, and let yourself see through the relativeness blandness of life, you will miss the colour of living.
